Final Pre-season / Intra-club Game & Awards Night

Final Pre-season / Intra-club Game & Awards Night - Posted 1st May 2022

Today’s intra-club game saw ‘Team Jim’ take on ‘Team Dom’ on the final Saturday before the start of the league season, and a perfect opportunity to dust off any cobwebs.

Having won the toss, Jim decided to bat first and despite the loss of an early wicket, looked to be a good call despite good opening spells from Abbott and Bailey. After 15 overs, ‘Team Jim’ were going steady with 73 off 15 overs. Matt Long doing most the damage but supported ably by Neil Townson.

The two went onto a 70-run partnership before Matt, having batted very well, retired on 50*. Neil continued to score freely ending up on a well-made 36 before being bowled by Pye. After 30 overs, Team Jim were going at a respectable 5 an over and some late big hitting from Palmer saw the team post a very defendable 180 off of their 35 overs.

M Long 50* N Townson 36 M Palmer 25

Pye – 2-15 Abbott – 2-25 Warriner – 1 - 34

In reply, Keylock and Knight got off to a steady start putting on 33 for the first wicket before Pat Stroud made the breakthrough. Team Dom however continued to go slightly above the asking rate and with a couple of big sixes from JT and Daryl Townson chipping away, were in a comfortable position.

Soon after however, a few key wickets from J Long slightly shifted the momentum gained, but with D Townson holding one end and demonstrating to the 2s skipper he could prove to be a useful batter this season, Team Dom were slowly reaching their target. By the 25th over, after Townson was finally dismissed for a well-made 38, Team Dom were on 130 setting up for a good finish requiring 50 from the last 10.

Enter P Warriner and Mick Fisher who scored a very useful 36 run partnership and all but took the game out of reach. When Mick eventually fell, the ‘finisher’ Bailey came to the crease needing 12 off the last 15 balls. Never in doubt, Bailey scored a useful 6 off 4 balls whilst Warriner hit the winning 4 at the end of the 34th over to see Team Dom over the line.

D Townson – 38 P Warriner – 26* M Fisher – 24

J Long - 3-58 P Stroud – 1-18 J Savage – 1-24
